Övertorneå

Övertorneå is named for the little city in the the valley which shares a border with Finland at the Arctic Circle. It was the place where the Sustainable Sweden movement was started by Torbjörn Lahti.

Lahti founded the movement which resulted in over 80 Eco-Communities in Sweden. He says that his country uses 90% renewable energy. With that in mind, at Little Gnesta we heat with wood, which can be obtained locally.

In keeping with this northern theme (albeit in North America), Övertorneå has twin Rittenhouse Beds made in the 1940s in Cheboygan, Michigan. As with the other rooms at Little Gnesta, you’ll sleep “Scandinavian” with comforters and duvet covers (no top sheet needed). The mattresses are topped with feather beds for extra comfort.

The bathroom (with shower), exclusively for the use of this room, is two steps across the hall from this cozy room (10′x10′). Air-conditioning, hair dryer, locally made Mountain Country Soaps and Jon Somes shampoo/conditioner, free Wi-Fi, but no TV. $85 per night.
